GRANTS PASS, OR - Plans for the new Parkway Public Safety Station are taking shape.

The building will be located on the Texas Property. The Texas Property is eight acres of city-owned land located at Grants Pass Parkway (near Deb Potts Memorial Bridge) and East Park Street.

At a recent workshop meeting, architectural drawings and floor plans were presented to the Grants Pass City Council.

The Parkway Station will be constructed using fire-resistant materials and will have capacity for up to eight firefighters per shift. Police will also use the building, including an evidence room and a secure room for conducting interviews. The building floor plan totals 16,162 sq. ft. including 11,842sf on the first floor and 4,320sf on the second floor.

The building design features a "Northwest" style theme. A similar theme has been considered for the Riverfront Tourist Commercial Standards project currently underway with the City.

The west side of the building, facing the Parkway, will feature a public education room that will prominently display historical items, including a classic LaFrance fire truck that Grants Pass owned in the early 1900's. This truck was recently reunited with Grants Pass when it was restored and donated back to the City by the previous owner.

Funds to construct the Parkway Station and a new station in the Redwood area have not yet been secured. A restaurant tax put on the May 16 ballot by the Council, if approved by voters, will be used to finance the stations. If the tax is not approved, a bond measure may appear on the ballot in the General Election in November. City officials have said the new buildings are necessary to maintain a five-minute response time to all areas of the City.
