Quintuplets born to Grants Pass couple
PORTLAND, Ore. - Quintuplets were born to a Grants Pass couple late Wednesday night at Oregon Health & Science University.
The mother, 26-year-old Rhonda Ford, delivered by Caesarean section three girls and two boys from 10:39 to 10:41 p.m.
The mother and babies are doing better than expected, according to their health care teams. The babies weigh from 1.42 pounds to 1.65 pounds.
This is thought to be only the second set of quintuplets born at OHSU.
Rhonda Ford has been an inpatient at OHSU since mid-March when she was referred by her Grants Pass physician due to her high-risk pregnancy. She was 25 weeks and two days pregnant at the time of delivery.
The father is Chris Ford, 26. The couple also has a 4-year-old son, Jacob.
The quints are expected to stay in the OHSU Doernbecher Neonatal Care Center (DNCC) for several months. The DNCC is a 46-bed neonatal facility designed to accommodate the needs of Level II and/or Level-III newborn infants who are not more than 48 weeks post-conception and who need Level II/III care.
