Two residents announce they will run for City Council seats
Some City Council races may be contested

By TIM BURLESON

GRANTS PASS, OR - Even though election day is still over four months away, things are starting to happen in some of the local races for the Grants Pass City Council.

Lisa Berger has announced she will run for Councilor SW Ward 4. This position is currently held by incumbent Kris Woodburn.

William Kangas, currently serving on the Urban Area Planning Commission (UAPC), has announced he will run for Councilor NE Ward 2. Robert Keith is the incumbent. Keith told the Grants Pass Climate today he has not yet made a decision about running to keep his position.

In SW Ward 3, Tim Cummings, the incumbent, said in a City Council meeting earlier this year that he intends to seek re-election.

In NW Ward 1, incumbent Jeff Hyde has not yet decided, but says he is leaning against seeking re-election. "At this time I am leaning strongly to not running," Hyde told the Grants Pass Climate. He added, "Although there is a possibility I may run, it is not likely."

The Mayor's position will not be on the ballot this year. Len Holzinger, the incumbent, was elected to a four-year term in 2004.

City Council races will be decided during the general election later this year on Tuesday, November 7th.
