Larry Lacey files appeal with City Closure of building at 5th and G is to be heard by City Council
By TIM BURLESON
GRANTS PASS, OR - Wednesday morning local property owner Larry Lacey notified the City of Grants Pass that he plans to appeal the City's closing of building located at the corner of Fifth and G streets.
City Attorney Ulys Stapleton said that the building was closed by the City after Lacey was cited for working without proper permits.
Stapleton said that Lacey has now hired two different engineers who say the building is safe to enter for remodeling. Previously, after serving an administrative search warrant and breaking in the door to the building, a structural engineer for the City inspected the building and gave the opinion that the building was unsafe to occupy. The building was then closed by the City.
Stapleton said that the City offered to hire a second expert to inspect the building but Lacey refused, then filed the appeal.
Lacey's appeal will be heard by the Grants Pass City Council at an upcoming meeting. The Council will schedule a date for the appeal at their workshop meeting on Monday, July 24th. Stapleton said that the City is required to hear the appeal within 10 - 60 days from the date it was filed.
